Training

We offer workshops and trainings to service providers and organizations in Winnipeg and across the province of Manitoba.

People who have experienced trauma are at risk of being re-traumatized in every social service and health care setting. The lack of knowledge and understanding about the impact of trauma can get in the way of services providing the most effective care and intervention. This can leave people feeling misunderstood, unsupported and even blamed. It can also perpetuate a damaging cycle that prevents healing and growth. This can be prevented with basic knowledge, self-awareness, and by considering a trauma sensitive perspective and trauma informed practices. Our goal is to enhance the capacity of organizations and systems to better meet the needs of people who have been affected by trauma.

Trauma Informed Care (3 hours)

This introductory half-day workshop explores trauma from both a neurological and contemplative lens and provides a general overview of the signs, symptoms and impact of trauma. Trauma Informed Principles are identified, and participants are invited to reflect upon ways to integrate this perspective into personal and professional interactions. Included in the session are mindfulness practices and the opportunity for self-reflection.

This workshop is geared for all service providers, students, management and anyone else who is interested in incorporating the principles of Trauma Informed Care.

Vicarious Trauma (3 hours)

This workshop is geared for service providers in caring professions who may be impacted by the trauma they witness in their work. It looks at the definition of trauma, and vicarious trauma, as well as the impact of trauma on our minds and bodies. In exploring the warning signs and risk factors of vicarious trauma, strategies to address and protect from the impact of the work will be highlighted. This workshop incorporates mindfulness activities to provide participants with the experience of these practices and how they might be useful in mitigating the impact of vicarious trauma. This workshop is meant to look at our own stress responses and incorporate stress management and self-care in our everyday lives.
